Deep River

We stayed in camp until 10:30 this morning utilizing the power and internet connections to get a lot of work done. When we got on the water, we paddled just a few miles to the Des Joachim dam which we spent two hours portaging around. We have carts that we can put the kayaks on, and they make portages on roads infinitely easier. After a delicious lunch and a refreshing swim, we were back on the water. We have noticed many more powerboats now that we are below the dam. We paddled to around 6:00 and set up camp on a sand spit directly across the river from the town of Deep River. This is a popular spot! There is a whole village of houseboats on the other side of the spit form us! We saw quite a few loons today, a chipmunk, and a red squierrel that chewed through one of our food bags this morning. We paddled about 22 miles today in five hours (not counting the portage).
