Deux-Rivieres-The Ottawa River

Print PDF
Happy Fourth of July!! We woke up to a beautiful morning and were on the water by 8:30. After a few minutes of paddling, we joined the Ottawa River which will take us through Ottawa, Montreal, and Quebec City. The day quickly turned into a hot one, and we were sweating heavily before 10:00! The water in the Ottawa river is a bit colder than the Mattawa, and the swim during lunch was very refreshing. We were surprised to find very few cottages and cabins along the Ottawa and we only saw a couple motorboats. But it suits us nicely to have the river to ourselves! We are camped on a beautiful rocky point just past the town of Deux-Rivieres. The sunset tonight was beautiful! Wildlife: we saw three loons, a Blue Heron, a few seagulls, a small frog, a very rambunctious flock of ravens, and a flock of geese being tagged by researchers on the bank of the Mattawa. We paddled about 24 miles today in seven hours.
