It rained a little bit last night, but it didn't last long. We woke up this morning to beautiful sunshine. After putting in, the current swept us downstream, and a strng tailwind only increased our speed. We averaged five miles an hour today! We stopped in the small town of Verchères to buy some groceries and eat lunch. Our French is very poor, and it shows when we stop in small towns where many people do not speak English. But we are slowly learning. After lunch we paddled to a campground just outside the town of Lorainaie, Quebec. We took a refreshing dip in their pool, and then had the privilege of taking a shower! What a great feeling! We paddled about 30 miles today in six hours. We saw two blue herons, a couple cormorants, gulls, many geese, a dead sucker, and jumping fish. The wind kept the temperature relatively cool and comfortable today.
