Near Southport Island, Maine

Print PDF

5 am has become our customary wake up time. We were on the water by 6, departing from Tenants Harbor. The wind was light. We rode on a big, gentle swell as we paddled past Pemaquid Point. This swell is apparently from Hurricane Isaac. The period of the swell was so long that we hardly noticed we were rising up and down. Passing the rocky shores of islands or shoals reminded us that the swell was quite large as we watched massive waves break. Dave and I managed to find a sheltered place to land this afternoon. It was nice to put in 28 miles before 3 pm. We are camped near Southport Island. As I write this, it is still light out but mosquitoes are beginning to swarm around the tent.P9060246
